I must say 2011 was lazier than any other year in a while. Sure, I trained and I worked but not to the same extremes as other years. Placing 2011 in the category of a rest year wouldn’t be too far from the truth. My body and mind must have needed it after four years in Poland. Rest, after all, is as important as hard work.
Goal wise it wasn’t a successful year but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good year. It was. I returned to Australia, I ran my first marathon, I scored a position in a great company and I graduated with a Masters degree. Sure there were emotional ups and downs – when aren’t there any? Life is not perfect which is what makes it so exciting; the down times make you appreciate the good times. If it were all good, we’d get bored. Cheers to 2011! Bring on 2012!
So, today’s training session to end 2011 with: a short 5km run, but with a catch. Hills. The first 4km were hills so no wonder I was knackered by the end of it. My heart rate peaked at 184bpm which is 98% of my max. The run averaged 78%, and this was supposed to be easy, it wasn’t. I hurt through most of the run and realised that I have a lot of work ahead of me to even begin to reach my fitness goals.
How was your 2011?
And here I thought it was just me… I took a rest year in 2011, too! Not on purpose, but I was suffering a severe motivation drought or something. But congrats on your many accomplishments this year! Have a great 2012!
Thanks Su! All the best to you too.
It must have been something in the weather – I couldn’t get motivated at all!
