2012 Bring It On!

I have a love and hate relationship with new year’s resolutions – not sure if you can have a relationship with new year’s resolutions but you know what I mean. I love setting goals, the hate enters the equation when I haven’t been able to meet those goals. The reasons for not meeting those goals usually is completely dependent on me. I decide on my actions every day, therefore it’s up to me to make the things I want happen. Achieving success comes down to just that: 99% perseverance and 1% luck – luck generally follows hard work  – at least that’s how I like to see it. So here goes, my goals for the next twelve awesome months are…
fitness
Train harder and smarter. In 2012 I need to be more systematic.
Race more. I’m aiming for at least 12 events this year.
Sign up for races earlier to save on fees.
Sign up, train for, take part in and finish the 70.3 Ironman in December in good form.
Swim 100km or more.
Run 1200km or more.
Cycle 3000km + (on road and on turbo trainer that I will purchase by end of January)
Yoga/Pilates 52 hours
Weight training 52 hours (including kettlebells and gym work)
Cross training at least once per month (i.e. boxing, walking, hiking, kayaking etc.)
health
Eat 3-5 servings of fruit and vegetables every day.
Increase the amount of legumes in my diet.
Drink more water everyday.
Experiment in the kitchen with healthy cuisines.
Increase protein intake – more fish, tofu, red meat, beans.
financial
Eliminate all the nasty debt – two credit cards and a personal loan – Yuck!.
Reduce my spending and increase my income.
Build my share portfolio – this is my investment for the future.
Start an emergency fund and build towards having two months of living expenses saved.
Purchase an investment property by December 2012 with my partner.
personal
Spend more time with family and friends.
Try to be more patient and understanding.
Practice what I preach.
Spend a little bit of time learning Chinese each week.
Write a little bit every day.
Read 50 + books (fiction and non-fiction)
Actually pitch ideas to editors instead of letting them fester in my notebook or Mac.
Make time to relax and indulge in the finer things in life – good wine, great company, delicious chocolate, a nice long aromatherapy bath, massage or pedicure for my run down feet.
miscellaneous
Travel to three new places (in Australia and/or overseas)
Spend more time at the beach, in the mountains and generally outdoors.
Achieve all the goals on this list (seems like a lot but they’re all dependent on me so if I don’t stick with it I’m only failing myself and take full responsibility)
What are your goals for the next 12 months? Are you taking it easy this year or going at full speed ahead?
