It’s July, I sit around rugged up in the early mornings and early evenings, while during the day I stroll around in a pair of thongs. I love Aussie winter, especially when I can sit on my balcony and bask in the afternoon sun while I write, read, apply for work and surf the net. The only thing I can’t be bothered doing right now is training. I’m not surprised though. It’s like I’ve had my marathon high and now I’m coming down and feeling lost. What am I supposed to do next?
Pick a race and start training for it.
The soreness has almost gone. I spent Monday and Tuesday doing almost nothing, it was such a chore to stand up and sit back down. The only workout I had was taking my dog for a walk, well it was my partner walking her, while I tagged along. I couldn’t even hold the leash when she pulled because my legs just gave way. Walking did help ease the muscle pain though and I probably should have done more of it but with motivation lacking I just went with the flow.
Next week I’m going to start my training for the next race. I’d like to do a half marathon in Brisbane in August. Whether I run or not will depend on my finances and training – I’m actually shocked and frustrated at the cost of most the races here in Australia. I remembered them to be cheaper, but then again a few years have gone by.
So, for the next month or so, my training will focus on improving my tempo and endurance. I will include one long run each week no matter how I feel. Motivation or no motivation my training needs to include runs longer than 90 minutes if I want to run more marathons or even half marathons in the future and continue improving. Today, I might do some upper body strength training and stretches, I’ll take Kola, for a walk, and tomorrow I will visit the gym and try to go for a quick twenty minute run before getting back to proper training by Saturday. I have high hopes and high expectations of myself. I might have to start living up to them.
What are you training for at the moment?
Yay for recovery! I’m training for a half marathon, but I just found out that a friend is getting married a couple of weeks later & we’d have to travel for both. So, it’s kind of up in the air at the moment. :/
However! I gave you a blog award! Drop by to get it!
Thanks Su 🙂
All the best with the half marathon training! Even if you don’t end up managing to do both, they’ll surely be another half or full around the corner 🙂
Relieved to see you’re getting there – sounds very painful! I’m just training for fitness at the moments – 18 months of illness + injuries behind me. Roll on six months time and then plans for races will start again
