Wow. That went by quicker then expected. Now that the fifty days of sugar free eating is over half of me is contemplating keeping it up and the other part is thinking mmm, there’s a dark chocolate Lindt ball in the fridge. Should I eat it or shouldn’t I?
One thing I have learnt over the past fifty days is moderation is the key to good health, happiness and wellbeing. I’ve enjoyed the challenge. There were moments where I could have used a chocolate bar to get me through a stressful afternoon. Or being out at dinner and watching friends devour a chocolate tart with whipped cream. Yummy. My mouth waters just thinking about it. I resisted.
Tim Tams have brought out new treat packs. Little packs of Tim Tams of different flavours. Chocolate, double chocolate, caramel, turkish delight, white chocolate and now even orange and chocolate Tim Tams. Yummy. Walking past them in the supermarket aisle I almost grabbed one. Then I thought; did I really want one or was it because the 50 days were over? I couldn’t decide so I grabbed a pink lady apple instead.
I’m not going to cut out chocolate or sweets forever. I’m not going to make them a part of my regular eating plan either. Having said I am going to remain conscious of the products I purchase and the amount of sugar in them. It’s not the odd chocolate bar that causes damage it’s the every day sugar products we eat that are so much more detrimental. These include sauces, soft drinks, juices, jams, low fat yoghurts, processed foods, muesli bars.
If you don’t understand the ingredients or see a list with sucrose, fructose, and all the -ose items it’s probably best to avoid the product. Smart choices, eating more natural foods and still being able to enjoy the odd slice of cake or piece of chocolate.
