A few hours before

In just a few hours we’re going to be running the Twilight Half Marathon in Brisbane. I’ve never done this race and it’s been eighteen months since my first half marathon. Sure, I’d love to get a PB but I think the aim of the game today is to enjoy the race, run it together, and finish in good form.  (Secretly, I am hoping to keep a 5min per km pace.)
I am looking forward to the race, the last few days I have been worried and a little bit apprehensive but it should be fun. There wouldn’t be a point in doing it if it wasn’t. But with limited training recently, a few niggles here and there, I’m not certain how my body is going to handle it.
The Twilight Half Marathon is a two lap course. I think this is a good thing. On the second lap I’ll hopefully know when to speed up and when to slow down. I’ll also know how far the finish line is. We’re going to start of at a comfortable pace that both of us can handle and aim to speed up slightly every 5 kilometres. This time we’re also prepared with gels. We’ve purchase some Endura Raspberry flavoured gels which I used for my first marathon last year and they were great. The plan is to ingest one at about 7km and another one at about 14km and maybe a third one at 19. Do I really need that many? I don’t know, I might only end up using one but I prefer to have three just in case. How many would you typically use for a half marathon?

I really need to add more colour to my running wardrobe!
