I got up at 4am this morning to take my partner and my brother to the airport. They have gone to Sydney for a boy’s long weekend and I’ve got four days all to myself, well sort of. After dropping them off I argued with myself about the pros and cons of going to the gym straight after. I knew that if I didn’t go to the 5:45am RPM class, I probably wouldn’t work out today. The only thing I wanted to do was return to bed, hide my head under my snugly duvet and return to dreamland.
Before my turn off I realised that the choice wasn’t too hard. I was tossing up between going back to bed or having a workout. Finally, the workout won. I knew that I would regret going back to sleep. However, I would never regret having a workout no matter the quality; and to get one out of the way before 7am was an added bonus.
The RPM class was great. While I didn’t put in 100% – my body was still half asleep, and the last time I did an RPM class was a month or so ago. I’d say the effort was a 7/10. I’ll do better next time, promise.
I finished the class and jumped straight on the treadmill for a quick fifteen minute run. I like running after the RPM class, it gives me a chance to train my legs to run when they are tired. It’s also a workout that I haven’t done in a while so it’s going to become a regular part of my training again. Speaking of training, I’ve drafted a fourteen week plan that will hopefully lead me to my first endurance triathlon, a 70.3 in November.
How was your training today?
So many questions on this post! First – yeah definitely a good choice to workout, it’s impossible to get back to sleep with an easy conscience once the word training has been mentioned!
But what is an RPM class (too lazy to google!) and endurance triathlon – are you mad? looking forward to reading about this training!!
@ Niamh – RPM is a spin class which is an intensive indoor cycling workout which is done to upbeat music. RPM stands for revolutions per minute – you get quite a few during the class.
Endurance triathlon is the ironman distance. I want to do the half ironman hopefully this year which is a 1.9km swim, 90km cycle and 21.1km run – i’ll see how it all goes. And yes, i may have gone a little mad 🙂
