Australian Fitness Week starts today and Fitness First around Australia are giving away 7 day Fitness First passes for the period of 7 April to 14 April 2014. What better way to get a start on your health and fitness goals?
With 3 in 5 Australians overweight including 1 in 4 children health and fitness needs to become a priority not a hobby. People talk about investing their money in shares and property and managed funds, but what about investing in their health?
No money in the world is going to give you a great life if you feel like shit most of the time because you’re too tired to get off the couch let alone run after your kids. Your health is your investment and it’s time to take it seriously.
Here are three things you can get started with this week to begin your journey to healthy and fit:
1 – Wake up 20 minutes earlier and go for a walk, do some push ups and squats, stretch on your living room floor. You don’t need equipment to get moving. If getting up early isn’t an option, go for a walk during your lunch break, or when you get home from work and before you cook dinner, get on to housework or veg out on the couch.
2 – Use the Fitness First 7 day pass and see if you like the gym environment. Generally there’s no obligation to sign up with the gym after the 7 day period though be warned: they will take down your details and try to sell you a membership. Remember, you’re not obligated to purchase one. (Note: I have no affiliation with Fitness First. Used to be a member but not anymore).
3 – Make a conscious decision to spend 30-60 minutes being physically active every day this week. Walk, run, kick the footy with your kids in the park, go for a swim, take up surfing lessons, ride your bike, get off a stop earlier, hire a personal trainer, go hiking, try a yoga dvd, or check out any free fitness classes in your local area (the Gold Coast City Council offers many throughout the week in the local parks including Burleigh Heads and Broadbeach).
