Book Review: The Women’s Health Big Book of Exercises

If you need a reference book for strength training exercises this one is a good choice. The Women’s Health Big Book of Exercises: Four Weeks to a Leaner Sexier YOU! by Adam Campbell, Fitness Director, Women’s Health, is full of exercises that you can do for your entire body. There’s a chapter dedicated to each body part – Chest, Back, Shoulders, Arms, Quadriceps & Calves, Glutes & Hamstrings, Core, Total Body, & Warm Up Exercises. With this book you can never have the excuse that you don’t know which body part to train, what exercise to do or claim that you are bored with your current routine. If you’re a veteran strength training advocate there’s sure to be an exercise in here to spruce up your training routine too.

What I like about the book is that the pictures are clear and easy to follow. With most of the exercises you have the main exercise, i.e. push up. Then you also are given variations of the push up including an incline push up on a bench, a single-leg decline push up, push up with a swift ball, weighted push up and more. With all these options you can constantly modify your routine so that your muscles are continuously being challenged and are less likely to reach a plateau. When training with weights it’s always good to change your routine at least every four-six weeks whether it’s by changing exercises and/or using heavier weights. With this book there’s no excuse not to.
