It’s countdown time to my first triathlon for this season. Six weeks of training to make up for all the wasted time during the winter months. Sure I trained but there was no structure, no routine and definitely no consistency. Shit happens. Now, I’m pumped and ready to get started. I’ve rested and rejuvinated my body and mind and now it’s time to put it through some physical pain for the next nine months – as it has been said, ‘no pain, no gain’.
Spring is in the air which makes getting up early in the morning so much easier. And since I have trouble sleeping through the week, getting up at 5am to fit in a quick workout instead of reading a magazine as I sip my morning tea is going to be a cinch. No excuses, no complaints. Easy, right?
Unfortunately of late, it’s my liver that has been getting the workout rather than my body, and I don’t mean in a good way. I suppose I needed to let loose a little bit. Now that’s behind me it’s going to get much easier to ensure training gets top priority, and it will. Although October is going to be a difficult month. This weekend I have a friend who’s up from Melbourne and there’s about ten of us going for a long and boozy lunch. Next week is my 10 year high school reunion which I’m certain will involved a few too many wines – though I do have to watch myself, the next morning I’m doing the 100km Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle Challenge – the gun goes off at 5:15am. Fun stuff!
Then the following weekend is a girl’s weekend in Melbourne for the BMW Caulfield Cup Race Day. I’m not racing but some talented horses and jockeys will be. I’ll be putting on my bets, indulging in champagne and cursing myself for not going for a run before hand. I could bring my running gear but who am I kidding, the only workout I’ll be getting is shopping on Chapel Street and shaking my booty on the dancefloor.
Today I’m happy to say I started the day off at the gym with a weights workout and RPM class. Now I’m going to wash mum’s car, go for swim at the local pool, and hit the beach for a long barefoot walk trying not to step on the blue-bottle jellyfish that have suddenly emerged out of nowhere and found a new home for the warm season on our shores. Trust me you don’t want to be stung by one of those -been there, done that – it hurts like hell and unless you have some vinegar on hand or are willing to pee on the wound it’s going to keep stinging and hurting for awhile.
What are your plans for the summer season? (or winter if you’re on the other side of the hemisphere)
