‘Brain Training for Runners’ by Matt Fitzgerald arrived in my mail box yesterday!
I’ve been waiting for it for weeks (gotta love the efficiency of the Polish postal service). Anyway, I started reading it today and I’m hooked. Will post more info once I’ve read the entire book.

The first half of December has been a little bit all over the place. There are lots of things happening that are drivinig me crazy – family issues, car problems, lack of motivation, etc. I should be running more, I should be doing a lot of things but the last month of the year has become a ‘do whatever goes’ month.

I’ve signed up for a 5km fun run in January so I will start preparing for that shortly. Next year I’d like to do at least one race per month ranging from 5km to the marathon, so getting one done in January will be a good start to the year.

How’s your December going?
Yay for new books! That’s the best! Do you know yet what marathon you’re running?
And here’s the answer to the questions you asked, since I don’t know when you’ll wander back to that particular post!:
Those are both kind of hard to quantify, but I’ll give it a shot! I started studying when I was in 9th grade (or 3rd year; I don’t know what educational system you are used to), and the high school years were really easy for me, so I didn’t spend any more time on Spanish than my other subjects. I took a trip to Mexico after I graduated, but that was the end of formal studying until I began college in 2003, when I had two years at the college level, and then another break until this semester.
But, I’ve been using it continuously since I graduated in 1996, either to read or communicate (there are a lot of Spanish speakers in Texas!). I would say this semester I’ve given it at least an hour a day, but I did have three classes in Spanish.
That’s a lot of work but definitely worth it.
I need to start applying myself more.
In regards to the marathon i’m hoping for the July Gold Coast Airport Marathon in Australia.
