Easy Monday

Today’s run was meant to be easy. No pressure. No records. No intervals. Just taking one step at a time. Mondays are days I dislike missing a workout an it tends to ruin my motivation for the rest of the week.

Anyway, it was cold. The thermometer read 4 degrees Celsius. I am not a cold climate person. I don’t like winter. I’m surprised I’ve manage to survive three Polish winters in a row without staying tucked under a heavy duvet for the duration. I love sunshine and the summer. Running when it’s 30 degrees Celsius doesn’t bother me, having grown up in Australia I’m used to the heat.

So, dressed in a warm running clothes, two layers on top, a hat and gloves I set off. The easy run turned into a moderate to fast paced training session to stay warm. I figured the faster I ran the quicker I would warm up. The first 10 minutes were awful, but after that I stopped feeling the cold and began enjoying my run. I’m not sure how I’m going to handle winter running this year when temperatures drop severely below zero.

Do you run during winter? How do you dress and warm up prior to heading out for a run?

  1. it took me a very long time to get to a point where I sort of enjoyed cold weather running…yup then we moved to Miami and now anything below 50 and I think it’s time for full on winter gear
