Fooled by the trainer

So, I finally tried out the turbo trainer today. It is FANTASTIC.

Jarek setting up my new toy

When we set up the bike on it initially and I tried riding it felt really uncomfortable, like riding one of those old school exercises bikes at the gym that feel unnatural with each revolution. For a moment I was really bummed out about it thinking that maybe the trainer was not going to be my new training pal. But after a few minutes of whinging and whining to Jarek about how the turbo trainer should be more fluid and we had set something up incorrectly we finally got it to work the way it was supposed to. Comfortable, smooth and easy. Yeah right, I was fooled from the get go.

It wasn’t easy. It was exhausting. I didn’t expect to get such a workout in such a short period of time. I thought, yep, 45 minutes no problem. Haha, yeah right. I was stuffed with sweat pouring down my face, my back, my entire body. I managed 30 minutes whilst watching one of my favourite TV shows.
First turbo trainer workout

The turbo trainer is going to play a significant role in my training. It’s convenient, and with a long commute to and from work, a full day at work and darker mornings on their way, the trainer will guarantee that I fit in all my cycling workouts into the week.

Do you use a turbo trainer? If so, how much time do you spend on it?
Last week’s training:
Sun – Triathlon 750/20/5
Mon – Rest
Tue – 30 min run
Wed – Rest
Thu – 25 min run
Fri – Rest
Sat – 20 min walk
I was exhausted after the triathlon. Recently, I’ve also noticed I get headaches after tough training sessions. It’s frustrating. It feels like a footy match in my head. The pain isn’t isolated, it spreads around my entire head and is almost unbearable, hence the lack of training. I still had a bit of a headache today, it was mild but it was there. I went to the gym in the morning anyway and jumped on the treadmill. I wasn’t expecting much. My entire body felt uncomfortable – I ran anyway. After five minutes I got into a good rhythm, after ten minutes my head stopped hurting. After twenty minutes I was prepared to run for longer. I stopped at 25 minutes knowing I wanted to get on the turbo trainer. Maybe the headaches

  1. Very interesting but creative thinking by trainer indeed!! It’s looking fantastic and I hope trainee is getting beneficial result by using that training toy. Thanks

  2. Ugh, sorry about your headaches. I hope running it out keeps working for you!

I don’t use a trainer, because I use my bike for commuting so there’s not much point continuing to cycle once I’m home. But if I ever stop commuting by cycle, I would definitely want a trainer. Glad you’re liking it!

  3. Hi i was reading about your headaches its from Dehydration i know you might think your drinking enough ok but its seems your having a migrane try dioralyte in water after a running and space out drinks for the rest of the day and a drink beside your bed at night, i even have to give up donating blood due to dehydration
