Garlic, Lemon & Honey

Bad weather. Cough. Sniffles. Three things preventing me from going out for a quick run. Okay so bad weather is a lame excuse but going running with a cough and sniffles can lead to disaster and I don’t want to end up in bed with a fever and be off from running for a week or more. So what is a girl to do?

Stay at home and have an indoor workout. That’s what strength and flexibility training are for. I don’t feel weak or anything but with the wet weather, grey skies and paddles on the ground I’m not going to risk it. Weight training it is. And then what? How do I get rid of this onset of a cold?

Tea with lemon and honey works splendidly when it comes to warming up on a colder day and getting a bit of a vitamin kick. The problem is I never finish my tea before it cools. I’m normally drinking it cold or my partner finishes it for me. No surprise since I use half liter tea cups.

Garlic is another favorite. Nope I’m not worried about garlic breathe. Generally, I eat it when I know I’m not going out the same day so it’s usually an evening treat. I like adding garlic to pretty much everything. Soups. Stir fries. Curries. Sandwiches. Vegetables. Salads. While I’m not trying ward of any vampires, I am fighting those darn colds that come about with seasonal changes and people sneezing everywhere without bothering to cover their mouths.

Warm socks and slippers on the feet and a scarf around my neck. I can’t stand the cold. Which is why I’m still surprised that I’ve last three winters in Poland and on my way to a fourth. I’m hoping it’s a mild one this year though predictions from people suggest the opposite. Mm, maybe I should be thinking about booking my plane ticket back home.

When things get really tough and I start shivering or feel a fever coming on I take an aspirin or two and go to sleep in warm pajamas and covered by a thick duvet. By the morning I’m usually drenched from sweating all night but feel much better.

Doctors? Well, I prefer to avoid them unless I’m feeling really ill. I can’t stand antibiotics as I believe they lower our immune system and make us more prone to illnesses. Though I do make sure I go for an annual check up every year just to be on the safe side. But that’s preventative medicine otherwise I turn to my garlic, lemon and honey.
