One of my favourite magazines is 220 Triathlon. Today I picked up a fresh copy and found it filled with inspirational and touching stories of athletes achieving extraordinary feats. Charlie Wittmack talks about his amazing and unbelievable adventure of swimming the Thames, cycling through Europe and Asia, and tackling the massive Mt Everest. It’s a great story that shows that the human body is capable of challenges beyond our imagination.
Then there’s the story about 71 year old Peter Bennett who’s an age group champion and continues to train and compete in spite of the injuries and accidents he’s faced. It’s another great story that touches you deeply and makes you realise that anything is possible and excuses are just not good enough.
The magazines is also filled with great advice for beginners and advanced triathletes. It’s the only triathlon magazine that I have found that offers great stories of world champions and local sporting heroes, as well as useful tips and tricks to be a better swimmer, cyclist and runner. If you only buy one tri mag, I recommend 220 Triathlon.

On another piece of news, last week I saw a story about a pregnant women in her 39th week completing the Chicago Marathon, yes, a week before her due date she was running 42.2km. What surprised me the most was that her doctor gave her the ok as long as she took it easy – now I can’t remember anything about the marathon being easy. Who was he kidding? Apparently, she ran the marathon, went into labour and gave birth. Long day, I’m tired just thinking about it.

Next month we find out whether the Gold Coast is going to be hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The city has lots of sporting facilities, beautiful weather most of the year, warmth, sunshine and friendly people. It would be great for the local economy, tourism and encouraging children and adults to lead more active lives.
