Today was just the way I wanted it to be. Sad to say that doesn’t happen all too often, especially on a Monday.
I arranged to have today off from work given the exciting weekend that just passed. With photo shoots, organising and attending one of my best friend’s baby shower and running a half marathon, I knew I would need a rest day today.
What I didn’t realise is how sore I would be. There shouldn’t be any surprise here but I had forgotten how much the body is put through during a half marathon.
Shoulders, abs, quads, calves, I can feel you all. You hurt and I love it.
Regardless, today was perfect because:
* No alarm clock. Yep. The benefit of not going to work on Monday and the better half starting mid morning is you can get away with waking up naturally.
* The better half and I ate breakfast together, then cleaned. Now cleaning is not my favourite activity, but the finished product makes me happy. As I write I sit in a freshly scrubbed and cleaned abode. Now if only I could keep it in this state for longer than a day!
* Cafe hangout. I drove to Broadbeach, grabbed a coffee and a trio of dips with turkish bread, sat down at a sunny table and wrote, people watched, and indulged in the simple pleasures. I’ve been wanting to do this for weeks. Weekends are always busy and it’s so much nicer indulging on a weekday. Less crowds and more guilty pleasure 🙂

* Walk in the park along the beach taking pictures. I love the beach. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before and you’ll hear it many more times. I love the sand, the surf, the waves crashing against the shore, the never ending blue hues as the ocean meets the sky, the sunshine on my face. I love the beach. I love Gold Coast beaches.

The walk was a necessity. Sitting for extended periods means stiff legs and walking funny. But hey that’s just the symptom of having run 21.1km the day before. It’ll be worse tomorrow, the stairs won’t be fun, but oh my yesterday was so awesome!
It’s almost time for dinner. A yummy chicken and vegetable stir fry awaits. The tummy is grumbling.
Now to end the perfect day: a cup of tea with lemon and honey in bed, read a few chapters of a book, snuggle and lights out.
