My last couple of interval workouts have been shockers. My fitness level is wavering. Only a few short months ago I could run intervals of 14-15k/h several times in the space of half an hour; yesterday I was having trouble completing a 30 minute workout with a couple 13k/h intervals. My lungs felt like they were going to burst and I just couldn’t keep going; after each interval I actually slowed down to a walk.
There are several reasons this is happening:
1* Dehydration – my water intake has been inadequate lately. Wine and champers taste so much better.
2* Nutrition – over the past few weeks my diet has been shocking. Some days I eat breakfast early and then forget to eat until dinner time.
3* Stress – I’ve been stressing a lot. There are a few personal issues going on and they’ve taken a lot out of me.
These are three things that have a significant impact on a workout and a race. They are also things that are within my control. I know that I need to drink more water, eat regularly and lower the stress levels. If I’m to compete in a triathlon summer season that starts in a few short months then I’m going to have to take control and start drinking and eating right, and lowering those stress levels.
Cheers to the next workout.
