I got dressed at 11:30am today. Normally I’d have half my work done but getting out of bed this morning felt like a chore. I decided to give myself a treat and stay put under the warmth of my duvet instead of fixing breakfast for me and my other half and getting my butt into the city. I don’t normally indulge in such guilty pleasures like not going to work. Actually I think it’s the first one for the year and we’re almost finishing with October.
It felt great. It was something that my body desperately needed. A lie in, watching silly programs on television, aimlessly surfing the Internet and not really caring about anything. The only thing I did get up for was to make myself a bowl of oats with banana and flaxseed oil before returning to bed with it.
I had no intention of doing anything today. Absolutely nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zero effort on my behalf.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, it depends from which point you’re looking at I got up and a set of old dumbbells stared me in the eye. I couldn’t resist. I thought why not, I can do a few push ups, some back rows, maybe a few curls and I’ll go back to bed. Twelve minutes later I was bouncing with energy. That was all it took for the grey cloud from my brain to disappear. The best bit of it all is that the sun has come out and I’m motivated to go for a run.
During my mindless web surfing I came across www.run.com which offers running routes all over the world. The majority are for the US, but I did manage to find twenty for Poland which included four for Warsaw. I’m really excited as there’s a route for Kabacki Forest and Bielanski Forest which are two places I’ve wanted to go running at to spice up my running non-routine. The site allows you to post your own running routes too. Could be useful for finding running routes when you’re travelling cross country or abroad. www.mapmyrun.com is another one that came to my attention.
I went out for a 30 minute run followed by 12 x 2 minute skipping intervals. I really enjoy working out with the skipping rope. I find that it helps reduce tummy fat, improves my fitness level and it brings back childhood memories. So much for staying in bed all day, I knew it wasn’t going to happen. Did try though. 🙂
Hey, I didn’t know if you would see if I commented back on my blog, so I skipped over here. 🙂 Great thoughts about dialog– I hadn’t even thought about sentence length, but it makes so much sense! And I’m kind of glad to know that it’s hard for other people, too– at least I’m not alone.
Great blog! I love that you’re so honest about needing a break from running in some of the posts. I lived in Warsaw a “few” years ago, I’m impressed you run outdoors there! One of my big memories is working out in the gym and then layering sheepskins, gloves and boots on over my gear to go home. Attractive!
