Today Jarek and I have signed up for the 5 Sports Super Centre Fun Runs that are the build up to the Gold Coast Airport Marathon. It’s five races, one per month starting in March. Each month the distance increases slightly and gives the opportunity to practice racing and see how your training is going. Last year I only completed one of the fun runs and am looking forward to doing the entire series.
The top runners in the series collect points in their age group categories and the person with the highest points after the five fun runs in each category wins free entry for the following year as well as a prize pack. Regardless of that, it’s a great way to keep on top of training and hopefully see small improvements and build motivation and confidence for the marathon in July.
I will be running in the 25-29 age category and Jarek will be in the 30-34 category. He’s faster than me even though he runs a lot less so I’m hoping to try and keep up and aim for PB’s for the 5k, 8k and 10k distances. If you enter for all five at once you only pay for four and get a t-shirt. Ok, so I’m probably never going to wear the shirt but it’s good to save $35 on the total entry fee if you’re planning to do all the races. Total cost: $135.
The Progressive Series looks like this:
Race 1 – 5km, 4 March 2012
Race 2 – 8km, 1 April 2012
Race 3 – 10km, 29 April 2012
Race 4 – 15km, 27 May 2012
Race 5 – 10km, 17th June 2012
Perfect day for the beach… |
The weather was absolutely gorgeous today and we couldn’t pass up the chance to go to the beach for a walk. Living 10 minutes from the beach you’d think we’d be there all the time but it doesn’t happen as often as we would like. I’m hoping to make this a regular activity as just taking a stroll along the shore letting the waves splash against legs is so relaxing. Wearing a ton of sunscreen, hat and sunglasses is a must of course. Here’s a pic of Broadbeach just 10km from where we live, I really don’t know why we don’t spend more of our weekends there.
