I am in love with my Suunto Quest. It’s great being able to see how hard my heart is working and how fast (or slow) I’m running. Yesterday we drove down to Broadbeach and ran along the Esplanade, highrises on one side and the deep ocean on the other. Families were enjoying BBQ’s, kids building sandcastles or playing beach cricket with the sun shining on everyone: a beautiful start to the New Year.
We were aiming for 10km, and everything was going well until we reached the 6km mark. Then I felt it: a sharp pain shooting down my shins. I gave a few moments thinking it was going to go away. It didn’t. I stopped and walked. An injury was not the way I wanted to begin the year with. Rather than finishing the run we enjoyed a leisurely stroll along the beach, the water brushing against our feet as the waves hit the shore.
What I like about the Suunto Quest is that it’s easy to use. It automatically connected the heart rate monitor with the foot pod and I could start training immediately. With only three buttons, and two that I need to use, the Suunto’s functionality is simple and effective. I could set it up to see how fast I was running or how hard my heart was pumping.
The only downside I found is that I cannot connect it to my new MacBook Air. It seems that it’s not compatible with the new Lion system that new Mac’s use so I’m just going to have to use my old laptop to transfer the information from the watch to the computer and the Movescount website. Once on there, all my training is stored and I can see the distance, pace, cadence, heart rate, training zones and
much more for each workout. I’m in love with this gadget and hopefully it’s going to be my training buddy for a long time to come.

Today’s training is a 20 minute kettlebell workout followed by 20 minutes of boxing, and finally 15 minutes of stretching. My partner has been urging me to do some boxing training with him for a while now, so I figured why not include it as part of my cross training to improve my fitness and reduce monotony in my training. Who knows, maybe even those abs might start coming out.
