Today’s workout involved something a little bit different. My friend and I spent a lovely two and a half hours outdoors on a slope in Warsaw learning how to ski. The last time I had a pair of skis on my feet was back in 1996 – in a different century and a different life.
Skiing isn’t easy, but it isn’t as difficult as I thought either. The theory is simple and all makes sense but putting it all into practice when you’re coming down a steep slope, trying not to fall flat on your ass, and maintaining a sensible pace while trying to remember to do it just how the instructor said is a different story. Going down I kept mumbling, to the left, and to the right, and to the left, and to the right, in order to get into a rhythm and actually make it down the slope. I did fall flat on my butt a couple of times but that didn’t deter me to keep trying. Two hours later I sort of got the hang of it. I’ll definitely be going back for more soon.
Afterwards it was time to fill my tummy with yummy food.
And I finished the day with an evening run with my partner. Couldn’t ask for a better day.
Training
Terrain: Asphalt
Time: 42 minutes
Distance: 7km easy
Yay for you! I’m glad you had fun. The one time I tried skiing I was unsuccessful, but you made it sound very easy! Maybe I’ll try again.
Sounds great! I like your liitle rhyme, whatever works, and impressed you went for a run afterwards, no pains?
Su – I think it gets easier with each ride down the slopes 🙂
Niamh – The run was unexpected but fortunately went well, felt a bit stiff the next day though 🙂
