Family and friends, I couldn’t live without you. Thank you for supporting me in everything that I do and being there when I need you. I know I can be a handful at the best of times. But I don’t know where I’d be without you. Tonight I took one of my dearest friends out for dinner as it’s her birthday at the weekend and I won’t see her and what did she do, she surprised me with a bag of yummy goodies for the half Ironman on Sunday, and for afterwards. I got coconut water, chocolate, sports drink, protein shake, chips and salsa, muesli bars and gels. It doesn’t get any more awesome then that!
Packing lightly. Yeah right, not when you’re packing for a road trip that’s gonna take you to the 70.3. So I started writing a list. One bag should suffice. Ha ha ha. I realised you need a lot of stuff for a middle distance triathlon: wetsuit, bike, tri suit, goggles, gels, water bottles, cycle jersey, two pairs of shoes, two pairs of socks, hat, sunnies and that’s just the triathlon gear. Then there’s the clothes you’re going to where the day before, after the race and on your way home. I feel like I’m going for two weeks rather than four days. It’s gonna be fun though!
Fear, anxiety, excitement. Yep it’s all there. I had a minor panic attack yesterday when it dawned on me what I’m doing on Sunday. Thinking about it seems like such a long distance and so many hours of racing. But then I thought, I’m doing this for me. The only person I have to race is me. It’s my first time. There’s no pressure. Not for this race. It’s an important one for the year but the most important part is finishing in the allocated time and feeling good at the end. Three days to go!!!
