Updates

*I’ve been swimming twice a week for the past three weeks (accept for this week –on Tuesday it was raining and much more enjoyable to spend time snuggling on the couch and watching Bond movies). I’m doing 2.5km per swimming session which is and isn’t a lot – I make that distance within the 60minute time frame. Warm up, cool down, and drills are the same each session, the only thing that differentiates is the main set. I’m actually really enjoying the swim sessions once I’m in the water, the main problem is getting in and it’s not going to get any easier especially with winter on the way. Luckily all the pools are heated with an average temperature of 26-27 degrees Celsius.
My goal for the next four months is to increase my speed and endurance in the water. I’d like to be able to swim 1.9km in under 40 minutes. I’m not sure if that’s possible but it’s something I want to work towards and it means swimming each 100m in around 2minutes for the entire distance. I haven’t timed myself as yet to see how much work I’ve got to do but I will do that in the next few weeks.

*On Sunday I’m competing in an Enticer distance triathlon. I did this distance and this race back in 2007 and really enjoyed it. It’s only a 300m swim (which I should manage), 10km ride and a 2.5km run. Short distance but it will reacquaint me with the sport and prepare me for longer distances in the future (I hope). The easy goal is to finish. The intermediate goal is to place in the top 10 in my age group. The ultimate goal is to finish the race in under 42 minutes. This is possible it means swimming in under 6 minutes, cycling in under 21 minutes and running in under 12 minutes with two fast transitions not lasting any longer than 1.5 minutes each.

*I’ve noticed that when I’m racing I don’t give it 100%. I hate that. Sometimes I go harder in training than I do in racing which is really frustrating. I know a lot of people do that and then they disappoint themselves come race time. This Sunday, I’m going to do a good warm up before the gun goes off and try to give it everything I got from the moment I dive in the water until I cross the finish line at the end of the run.

*Easter mucked up my training. I ate too much and felt like crap when I trained on Wednesday. Tuesday, I missed completely. It was a public holiday here in Australia because Anzac Day fell on Easter Monday so they moved it to the Tuesday which means Easter festivities continued for an extra day. Yep, I kept on eating. A little less than the previous two days but still heavy food that didn’t necessarily make me feel too good. I did get to catch up with a few old friends whom I hadn’t seen in over a year though, which was nice.
