Today’s training was meant to be an afternoon run with a group of people from work. The Cool Night Classic is coming up in November so one of the employees decided to head a few training sessions before the charity fun run. Unfortunately, today’s run was cancelled for reasons unknown to me. I was disappointed. I had mentally prepared myself to get involved so that I could meet new people and get to know the people I work with better, I was also interested to see how the guy was going to lead the session as it was going to be catered for runners of all levels. It’s always interesting to pick up new tips and tricks when it comes to training.
On the train ride home, doing the geeky thing – playing Chess on my new Iphone – I also managed to psyche myself up about going to the gym and getting in an interval session. I’m glad I did. The entire run felt fantastic. I was full of energy and ran harder than I initially intended. I love intervals and need to do more of them – two or three sessions per week would be great and they’d not only help me get fitter and faster over short distances but they’d help me lose the love handles that have started appearing since I started my job.
Even though my plans changed I managed to fit in my workout. Honestly, I didn’t feel like going to the gym but as soon as I changed into my workout clothes, got the gym and stepped on the treadmill I felt fantastic. So, if you’re ever contemplating missing a workout because it’s not what you planned, do one anyway, you’re going to be glad that you did.
Today’s Training:
20 min intervals – alternating one minute each – 10.9/12.1/13.1km/h and repeating this 5 times.
20 min walk
What do you do when your plans for training change at the last minute?
